Harvey Weinstein Blowback

By Michael The Libertarian

So ... It's been a few weeks and I have been watching the reaction to the "new" revelations ... literally dozens of Hollyweird idiots, jumping on the bandwagon and saying (essentially) they knew about the situation, but dare not say anything for fear of damaging their careers.
Let that sink in for a minute. Seriously. Re-read that. Some pretty big names have made statements along those lines.
I am not writing this to call anyone out, specifically (in fact, I'm warning you, in advance about an up-coming detour), but I am speaking to the prevailing attitude in Hollyweird.
Hollywood: the place that has been holding themselves up (collectively) as some sort of "council of arbiters of morality". The place that was communists, socialists, and their sympathizers as far back as the 30s that insists upon defining what America is supposed to be for the rest of us.
Harvey Weinstein is a sick, twisted, piece of crap that was enabled by Hollyweird's silence for easily 20 years, but it doesn't stop there.
By all estimates and anecdotal evidence, Weinstein was not interested in (terribly) young actors (although, I think there's one story about one sixteen-year-old female). So, now, hearken back a few years. Does anyone remember the "two C/Korys"? I forget their last names, but they were "child actors", back in the eighties and they had a reality show, back around the turn of the century on some A&E network? They spoke out about pedophilia in Hollyweird and their careers nose-dived.
They did the right thing and paid the price. In fact, there's video evidence of one of them, appearing on "The View" and Barbara Walters (of all people) admonishing him with: "But you're bringing down an industry". Really, Barbara? That's your concern when someone who (ostensibly) knows about which they speak and tells you of abuse of children? For shame.
There's been no secret about the casting couch. It's been thoroughly stamped with approval by the Hollyweird elitists that wishes to preach to the rest of us. I remember being a fourteen-year-old drama student and having our advisor read a letter from a friend of his who was living in Hollyweird and he wrote, extensively, about the casting couch. I'll out myself, here: I was 14 in 1978. That's just shy of forty years, friends.
So, now, we have all the bandwagon jumpers ... true enough, some of them are "speaking out" in an effort to become relevant again, but Angelina Jolie? Ben Affleck? These are big names that should have said something to someone. They're so big on being "activists" on certain issues, why not this one? Why the decades-long silence?
        They disgust me.
I have been saying, for some time now, that Hollyweird is a sewer. I think I'm being proven right, if people choose to look. I have also been calling for some of the truly moral folks to start getting some financing and start competing with the sewer trash that is Hollyweird by putting out quality products.
We've seen some examples. "God's Not Dead" comes readily to mind. That's the only movie I can remember buying in this century. Roma Downey and her husband (Mark something) should be applauded because they're trying to do just that.
Which brings me to the detour at which I hinted at, before:
If Hollyweird can manage to keep a lid on the casting couch and sexual harassment and possible pedophilia, do you think they might have the ability to silence voices with whom they don't agree?
Who was that guy that starred in a couple of movies with Jennifer Aniston? I can't remember his name, but that's kind of my point. There was a time when movies with him in them were being released every six months or so.
He answered a question about the 2nd Amendment and came out in favor of the 2nd and, as far as I can tell, he hasn't worked since.
There are plenty of actors in Hollyweird who haven't built up a lengthy resumé that are afraid to speak their mind for fear of having their careers torpedoed. Is this the America that we've fought and died for? Not for me.
