Time For Things To Change?

By Michael The Libertarian

I am sick to death of Alinsky tactics being substituted for legitimate political debate, today.
Look, public discourse is eminently important to the health of our republic. We need to be able to hash out our differences and we need to be able to speak, relatively freely, while we're doing that.
Do you know there's a shield law that protects Congress critters from prosecution for anything they say on the floor, regarding another member? What I said in the previous paragraph is exactly why that rule exists.
"What is Michael on about this time?" is what you're probably thinking. Well, listen, dear readers and you shall hear of how we can save this republic's rear.
I strongly think everyone should be forced (Yes, the Libertarian just said "forced") to sit through at least one debate class in high school. That debate class should follow right behind a civics class, by the way. I understand the reasoning for removing civics classes from public schooling at the time that it happened. The powers-that-be decided that us plebes would never get elected to office. That's for the ruling class. They also decided that keeping the electorate as ignorant as possible was in their best interests.
Anyway ... There are rules to debate to help keep people from looking like incredible tools. There are arguments that are helpful or "within the rules" of proper debate. Then, there are arguments that are not helpful.
I am going to give you some examples of these arguments:

You'll notice that three of these forms of "debate" seem very familiar. The bottom three are almost all you ever hear, these days. Just imagine me, saying: "I think we should build a wall and stop illegal immigration because ..." Have you seen anything besides those last three arguments used to counter my statement.
It's true. If you want to stop illegal immigration, it's because you:
        1) " ... forget that most illegal immigrants are asylum seekers so, you're heartless, obviously."
        or
        2) "... hate immigrants and want to make America white, again."
        or
        3) "... are just, plain, racist."
I remember a little-known senator from Illinois, announcing that he was running for president. I did a week of research on his voting record. I read his book. I told my readers that this man was a socialist, but because he was part African-American, a portion of my readers decried me as racist.
Isn't it time for this crap to stop? If it doesn't stop, we're never going to be able to resolve the issues in a civil manner.
