A Republic ... if You Can Keep It

By Michael The Libertarian

Something I've written about more than once is there appears to be a (at least) two-tiered justice system in this country.
If you break laws, if you engage in R.I.C.O.-type activity, if you're careless with classified material, if you destroy evidence that's been subpoenaed by the United States Congress, if you over-bill hours on a customer at your law firm, if you sexually assault, someone, you go to jail … unless your last name is “Clinton”.
Seriously. It is coming to light that the basis for at least one FISA warrant, obtain to spy on the Trump campaign was a discredited dossier of lies, paid for, at some point, by the Hillary Clinton Campaign.
Let that sink in for a minute.
Our government is not supposed to spy on American citizens except in the most egregious of circumstances, but in this case, it appears all that was necessary to put those wheels into motion was a tissue of lies, masquerading as opposition research.
The potential for abuse has always been there. Ever since Eric Snowden decided to show what a lies our intelligence community could perpetrate on us (with impunity, it would seem), we have come to know the potential is all too easily realized.
Imagine, in case you don't already believe, the Trump Campaign had nothing to do with any “collusion” with Russia in regards to the 2016 elections. Now think about the magnitude of the affront to our civil liberties that a (then) private citizen was spied on partially (maybe entirely?) based upon a completely made-from-whole-cloth piece if “opposition research” that was paid for by that private citizens competitor.
Now, understand that “competitor” appears to enjoy trans-actional immunity for any crimes, past, present or future.
Is this the America you want? It's certainly not the America I want.
The sad fact is there's a reason for this. It's one that gets continually poo-pooed, but the truth is the people who tend to get away with these kind of things are people who enjoy the protection not only of career political wonks, deeply ensconced in the sewer that is Washington, D.C. but they also enjoy the protection of the news media, Hollyweird, and most television (comedy as well as dramatic) shows and, up until the late 80s, most of talk radio.
So, as long as you hold the correct political views, you have a get-out-of-jail-free card for all but the most heinous or most public crimes. That explains a lot, really. Bill Clinton's behavior with young ladies back in the 80s right up to using one for a humidor in the oval office.
It also accounts for Roman Polanski still winning awards and getting standing ovations from the Hollyweird creeps. Weinstain, plying his trade for decades.
Obviously, it explains my pet project Shrillary Rotten Clinton who not only holds the right political stances but insinuated into the halls of power under her husband's presidency and beyond.
How are normal, every day, two-armed, two-legged, garden variety supposed to take the laws seriously? Why should we obey laws, when those laws don't seem to be applied, evenly. In what is supposed to be a democratic republic, where all people are equal, if the laws are not applied evenly, you're begging for a constitutional crisis – at best – and a revolution, at worst.
